Campaigns
In January 2006, the then Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson MSP, launched the 2 month campaign for the Scottish Safety Camera Programme which sought to undermine the perception that speeding is acceptable in certain circumstances and to emphasise the consequences of speeding. The launch was preceded on Friday 13 January by a "Fatal Friday" press release, which aimed to raise awareness of speeding and its consequences, as well as to highlight the increase in the number of accidents on Friday afternoons.
The message of the campaign is clear: speed and it will cost you.
Speeding can cost you money, it can cost you points on your licence and it could cost you in court. Above all, speeding could cost you your life, or the life of someone else.
It is hoped that the campaign will encourage drivers to change their behaviour on Scotland's roads, be responsible and help make Scotland's roads safer.
The campaign consisted of television and radio commercials, as well as billboard and petrol pump advertisements. A leaflet was also available for distribution and these can be viewed by clicking on the following links:
