John Swinney MSP for North Tayside spent Friday morning out and about enforcing the speed limit with Tayside Safety Camera Partnership (TSCP).
He was briefed on the campaign work carried out by TSCP, designed to educate and encourage motorists in Tayside to know their limits and stick to them. Mr. Swinney saw examples of campaign material used to educate tourist and foreign drivers, van hirers and drivers of company vehicles.
John then joined the TSCP Camera Technician in the mobile safety camera van located on the A923 Blairgowrie to Muirhead Route, to learn first hand how the camera works and how detections are made.
John Swinney MSP said, “Reducing speed in our communities is vitally important and safety cameras demonstrate a clear road safety benefit on roads like the A923, where serious accidents have occurred in the past. I saw for myself today that even the presence of a mobile safety van on the A923 encouraged motorists to slow down and keep to the speed limit. The work of TSCP can clearly contribute to reducing speed and casualties in our local communities.”
Louise Turner TSCP Communications Officer said, “Between 2000 and 2004 there were 22 fatal/serious accidents on the A923 Blairgowrie to Muirhead Route. Through educational campaigns and regular enforcement of the speed limit, TSCP aims to contribute toward reducing these accident figures.”
