Representatives from Tayside Safety Camera Partnership (TSCP), Tayside Police Road Safety and Perth and Kinross Council's Accident Investigation and Prevention Unit today participated in a Road Safety Event at Perth College.
The event, held in the Webster Building, provided an informal opportunity for students to learn more about road safety and to see first hand the work TSCP and Road Safety Officers are doing with young drivers.
Students were given the chance to see inside a safety camera van, ask questions about how TSCP operates and find out more about how safety cameras work.
Louise Turner, TSCP Communications Officer said, "we were delighted with the attendance today and the response from all of the students was extremely positive and enthusiastic. Many of those who came to see the camera van were new drivers or learners and they were really interested to find out about how the cameras work and how the Partnership contributes toward casualty and speed reduction."
Rachel Ewins, the Road Safety Officer brought the Brake Reaction Tester for the students to try and the equipment proved popular, allowing the young drivers to test their reactions to a variety of situations and distractions.
The event was extremely well attended and Provost Bob Scott joined the students to test out his own brake reactions. The Provost even tried out the field impairment goggles, which simulate how difficult it is to carry out a variety of tasks while tired or under the influence of alcohol.
